'Jellybeans' Music

On Wednesday 28th of August, Room 7 [Year 1] thoroughly enjoyed a  45 minute ‘demonstration lesson’ provided free by a specialist “Jellybeans” music tutor.

Being a multi-cultural school, I was especially pleased that she was an enthusiastic tutor with a Music Education Degree from The Philippines. The students instantly warmed to her.

The students were highly engaged with her age-appropriate action songs, rhythms and beats and interactive session.

They especially enjoyed performing as an ‘orchestra,’ using the tutor’s easy visual aids that directed when each percussion ‘section’ stopped and started.

The tutor came totally self-sufficient and provided all equipment and even written words of the song for the children to take home. All, but a couple, of the class were able to read all the words independently. She was delighted to be able to put her activities up on my Interactive Whiteboard, rather than using her whiteboard.

The 45 minute lesson takes up an hour, when allowing for her setting up and packing up time, however I think it was well worth it. It has given the children lots to talk about and write about within our classroom programme as well.

Thank you for that opportunity to trial the programme, LJ.

Constable White shows us her police car.

Today the Junior Team enjoyed having an up close look at a Police car.
Constable White explained why there is an identifying number on the roof and showed us the flashing lights and we heard all the different siren choices she has.
When asked who would like to be a police officer, nearly all the hands went up.
She explained that potential candidates need to be able to write great stories, solve maths problems and be fast with typing on a computer.
You also need to be a fit runner and swimmer and be a good, honest person.
Just as well those are all qualities that we encourage at BBPS isn't it!!
Thanks Constable White we enjoyed seeing you again. LJ.

Junior Team visit the Auckland Museum

We have enjoyed visiting the museum over two days as a part of our inquiry into Earth's forces - volcanoes, tornadoes, earthquakes, tsunamis etc.
It is great to have the students in groups with each others' parents to ask and answer questions and generally enjoy each others company as well.
The museum was gone over from top to toe by all students, and the variety of displays proved fascinating to most as these photos show.
As always, we were proud of the behaviour and the smart uniform. LJ.

NED Show:

Today the whole school enjoyed a free show by NED. He showed us some amazing yo-yo tricks.
NED stands for Never give up, Encourage others, Do your best.
Yo-yos will be on sale next week here at school for anyone wanting them, however it was the positive and proactive message that NED shared that had the most impact.
